  • Clothing Colours for Mother of the Bride: What’s Good and What’s Not

Your daughter is getting married! Congratulations!

Irrespective of whether it is a church wedding or a registry office wedding, this is a special day when you, as her mother, get to see her walk down the aisle and start her life with the partner of her dreams! It’s enough to make any grown woman cry.

However, you may be wondering about what to wear. Your daughter has her stunning dress, but what about you? Surely, there is a code on what is acceptable for the mother of the bride to wear on this momentous day.

Luckily, there is and here, our team at Froxx can help you narrow down the perfect clothing choice for you.

    What’s Not Good

Let’s start with the clothes and colours that are a big no-no unless you have previously spoken about them with your daughter.

When it comes to picking mother of bride plus size outfits, you will want to avoid white. Obviously! However, you should also avoid black unless this is the colour scheme of the wedding. Black equates to funerals, and no one wants to think about death on a wedding day! If your daughter is having a gothic wedding, then black will probably be OK, but that is not the norm.

You should also avoid anything that is too revealing or eye-catching. So, legs and bosoms respectfully hidden, ladies! Even if you have a figure like Nigella Lawson, you don’t want all eyes on you. This is your daughter’s big day, and such revealing outfits can cause arguments, which is not what you want!

    What’s Good

So, what is the perfect outfit for your daughter’s wedding day?

Look at the colour scheme; if your daughter and her partner have chosen a scheme such as white, blue and silver, then you have your choice of blue and silver outfits. Remember that white, ivory, or any cream-based colours should be kept to a minimum, so try to avoid dresses or outfits which are predominantly white.

This is not to say that your outfit has to be boring. Many mothers of the brides opt to wear larger hats, as well as deep colours, such as burgundy or navy blue. If you are not a fan of deeper colours, then you can opt for pastels. The most popular colours for the mother of the bride in this hue tend to be pale blue, pale green and even pale yellow.

You can also look into textures. Many dresses aimed at the mother of the bride have sequins, embroidery or different material mixes, such as silk and chiffon. This can really class up your outfit without going over the top!

Lastly, ladies, think of your own style. If you despise the idea of wearing florals, then don’t! If the idea of wearing yellow makes your skin creep, then don’t wear it! It is your daughter’s wedding, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your own likes! The best way to get around this is to go shopping for this outfit with your daughter, get her feedback, and have a fun day out before the wedding.
